Step 3a - Additional Beyond Time Meditations

This is step 3a of a guide to take a meditator to a taste of awakening/enlightenment based on Daniel P Brown's 3 map system.

Personally I'm not a big fan of coneptual type of meditations such as the one given by Daniel P Brown in his Sacred Sundays talk. So below I'm listing a few additional meditations that are an option for working on dissolving the illusion of time. Different things work for different people.

Ocean & Waves Practice

This practice extends the emptiness-of-time practice by opening space and awareness into a vast, unbounded field.

Instructions:

Open your eyes.

Look into the surrounding empty space.

“Mix” awareness into space until space and awareness feel like one field.

Notice the timeless, changeless quality of that field.

Let experiences arise like waves in the ocean of awareness.

Notice that the ocean itself doesn’t change.

This removes the subject/object division and the moment-to-moment time illusion.

Flattening the Time Dimension

Instructions:

“Hold the view that everything is happening in the same time: now.”

This means:
past = memories appearing now
future = imaginations appearing now
present = appearances arising now

Everything collapses into:
One single timeless moment of knowing.
This is the experiential meaning of Paragate.

When done correctly, this produces:
weightlessness
unchangingness
boundlessness
enormous spaciousness
silence of mind
disorientation (in the good way)

Dissolving Temporal Reference Points

Instructions:

the mind creates time via:
before / after
here / there
duration
continuity
sequence

You consciously remove these reference points by checking:

“Where is the past right now?” Answer: a mental image appearing now.

“Where is the future right now?” Answer: a thought appearing now.

“Where is the present as something that lasts?” Answer: cannot be found.

This collapses all time into non-time awareness.
